Open House is a free annual architecture program that opens some of Tasmania’s most unique and interesting buildings to the public, including private homes and historic buildings in Hobart (nipaluna) and Launceston.
Open House invites you to be a tourist in your own city.
Get out your camera and photograph the buildings and spaces you walk past every day; take a peek at how others live, work and play; and see how the city’s infrastructure works.
Look up, look inside, climb a bell tower or descend into a basement, and take in the incredible views from different vantage points around town.
We are pleased to announce that this year we are also hosting Open House Southern Midlands 2025. Stay tuned for more details.
Open House Hobart is made possible by the following organisations:
Major Partners: Tasmanian Government and Futago
Partners: Austral Bricks, The Agency and Lysaght

The Australian Institute of Architects acknowledges First Nations peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters, and skies of the continent now called Australia.
We express our gratitude to their Elders and Knowledge Holders whose wisdom, actions and knowledge have kept culture alive.
We recognise First Nations peoples as the first architects and builders. We appreciate their continuing work on Country from pre-invasion times to contemporary First Nations architects, and respect their rights to continue to care for Country.
