2024 The Lord Mayor's Brisbane Buildings that Breathe Architecture Prize
For 2024, we are pleased to once again partner with Brisbane City Council to offer The Lord Mayor’s Brisbane Buildings that Breathe Architecture Prize. The prize recognises outstanding achievement in architecture for buildings that demonstrate strong alignment with Brisbane City Council’s New World City Design Guide – Buildings that Breathe.
The 2024 prize will be awarded to the project that best meets the design principles outlined in the Council’s guide, showcasing high standards of design and construction, creating an enviable and lush urban environment, celebrating our subtropical lifestyle and stimulating economic activity.
The inaugural Lord Mayor’s Brisbane Buildings that Breathe Architecture Prize was awarded in 2020 to Lucent, by Plazibat Architects. This project set a new benchmark for residential development in Brisbane and showcased high quality design outcomes for inner-city living.
Recognising the increasing focus on creating good subtropical architecture across Brisbane, we would love to see more submissions this year and encourage you to enter your project.
To be eligible for this prize, buildings must meet the following criteria:
- Built or substantially completed within the last three years at the time of entry.
- Must be located within the Local Government Area for Brisbane and should exclude any development within identified Priority Development Areas.
- Must be greater than five storeys in height.
- Must exclude development approved through the Planning and Environment Court.
- Submissions need to be supported by a written statement outlining how the development achieves the intent of the New World City Design Guide – Buildings that Breathe.
Enter your project for The Lord Mayor’s Brisbane Buildings that Breathe Architecture Prize as part of the Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards. Submissions close on 16 February 2024 11:59pm AEST.
Thank you to Brisbane City Council for supporting The Lord Mayor’s Buildings that Breathe Prize.
