“Lucent is the result of a tight collaboration between client and Architect. As one of the last infill development sites around the Claremont Oval redevelopment, both the clinet and Architect were determined to create a point of difference considering the magnitude of new apartments in the area. The brief required a versatile floor plate where buyers could ‘design their own apartment’ to create a high-end, boutique development.
39 apartments were configured over 5 levels around a central courtyard that would provide shelter from the prevailing winds but allowing extensive natural light and ventilation to the common corridors and circulation. Constraints of the site limited apartments to face due east or west so the harsh summer morning and afternoon sun has firmly influenced the facade screening and deep set balconies. The extensive operable screening and awnings ensure that solar heat gain is minimised to achieve the +1 energy targets set within the precinct.
The facades were further articulated with extensive planter boxes and voids for feature trees that bring life and vibrancy to a fairly sterile corner of the precinct. Natural timber and stone throughout the project exude sophistication and warmth aiming to attract the discerning downsizer market.”
Client Perspective:
Lucent has been an enormous success. The quality of the design resonated with Perth’s downsizer market and apartment sales progressed rapidly. Every apartment in the building sold prior to completion and buyers have fallen in love with the architectural detailing and sublime spaces Hillam have created.
