Eco Kindi | LAVA (LABORATORY FOR VISIONARY ARCHITECTURE) with Module K

The design of a new eco-kindergarten encourages curiosity, activity-based learning and interaction with nature for the next generation of Vietnamese children. Interconnected interior and exterior spaces are playful and safe while making an architectural statement. The kindergarten near Hanoi, Vietnam, unfolds with three semi-circular buildings over three levels connected by Y-shaped footbridges giving safe and pedestrian-friendly access. The configuration forms themed interconnected courtyard/playgrounds. The scale is contextualised within the surrounding urban landscape, and curved shapes allow cross ventilation and views of the adjacent Goong Lake to be maximised.
The design language based on nature and its structural geometries is all about growth – organic shapes, simple architectural lines, primary colours, interiors scaled for different age groups, and facades/windows coded by age; child-friendly, without being childish. Circular cut out windows are framed in bold primary colours. Interiors feature fun flowing shapes and dinosaur-like ribbed surfaces.
