The Student Organised Network for Architecture is excited to announce the launch of the SONA Wellbeing Report, a project led by students, for students. Following a national survey of architecture students in 2022, this comprehensive report explores the mental health and well-being of architecture students across Australia, focusing on motivations, stressors, studio experiences, and available support services.
Key findings:
- 55% of students are feeling stressed or very stressed
- 58% of students feel that their course has either not met or only somewhat met their expectations, with many asking for more practical experience and software training.
- 88% of students were moderately or largely stressed by high workloads and deadlines.
- There are barriers to accessing well-being support, with 43% of students who are very stressed not accessing well-being support.
- 91% of students have a positive studio experience and value high-quality feedback, dedicated studio spaces and collaboration.
Congratulations to the student team for their hard work in bringing this project to life, and thank you to the students who participated in this survey and provided their valuable insights.
We encourage everyone to read the report, engage in the conversation, and help us drive positive change for the future of architecture education.
