A consortium of Queensland’s leading design and planning institutes have welcomed the State Government’s Games delivery plan, marking a crucial step in shaping the state’s future.
Together the Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), Design Institute of Australia (DIA), and Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) commend the State Government and all Games Partners for reaching this critical milestone.
“This is a significant milestone, and we congratulate the State Government and Games Partners for setting the 2032 Delivery Plan for the games venues and infrastructure,” said Sean Cullen, PIA Qld President and consortium spokesperson. “A pivotal legacy opportunity for the community lies in what comes next— stitching the venues into the fabric of the city and region to maximise their long-term impact and create lasting benefits for Queenslanders.”
As the focus now shifts to long-term outcomes, the consortium emphasises the need to prioritise Green Pathways, Gold Places by:
- Strong design coordination to create world-class venues and public spaces
- Seamless integration of venues with their surrounding precincts for vibrant, connected communities
- Pedestrian-friendly green grids to enhance sustainability, accessibility, and liveability
- Secured funding for place-making to ensure great places beyond the Games
“These Games are the pinnacle of sport— and an unmatched opportunity for city-shaping and place making in the public interest. In 2032, the city and the region are the venue,” said Mr. Cullen, “We must prioritise integrated design and planning to ensure the legacy of the Games benefits communities for decades to come.”
The consortium stands united in our commitment to working with all Games Partners to deliver an enduring city-shaping and place-making legacy.
“Our Green Pathways, Gold Places initiative outlines a shared vision for ensuring these investments create thriving, connected, and sustainable places,” said Mr. Cullen, “We encourage all stakeholders to embrace this opportunity and secure a positive future for Queensland.”
