The Australian Institute of Architects NT Chapter is delighted to announce the jury for the 2023 NT Architecture Awards. The Awards offer an unrivalled opportunity to showcase the extraordinary depth and breadth of the NT’s architectural talent.
Architects will present their projects to the jury from 16th – 19th April 2023.
Chair of Jury – Esther Chew, RAIA
CHAIR OF NT JURY – ESTHER CHEW RAIA | PEDDLE THORP ARCHITECTS (QLD)
Esther is a Strategic Thinker, Skilled Listener, Empathetic Leader, Energetic Collaborator.
A champion of social equity, I embody a process of collaboration that empowers participation and engagement, championing innovation that considers risk and am committed to learning through the evolution of outcomes.
A strategic thinker, she brings high energy and is adept with working with diverse stakeholder groups to deliver projects that are contextual, generous and one of collective ownership.
Growing up in Malaysia, and having lived in London, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, she brings a global perspective, hope and optimism. Recently appointed to the ODASA design review panel, (Office of Design and Architecture South Australia), she continues to champion the principles of good design through every aspect of my work.
Trained as an Architect, Esther has extensive experience in public architecture, arts and education projects with specialist expertise in community engagement and stakeholder liaison.
Jury Architect – Andrea Rice, RAIA
ANDREA RICE RAIA | ANDREA RICE ARCHITECTS
Andrea Rice is a true Northern Territory local, born and raised in Darwin. She graduated from RMIT University but returned to Darwin and worked for many years with Jackman Gooden Architects. After some time out from the profession running a pub and having a baby Andrea returned to the design world founded her own practice Andrea Rice Architects in 2018. Andrea works on a diverse range of projects and has a special interest in Interior and Hospitality spaces.
Lay Juror – Martina Matzner
MARTINA MATZNER | INDEPENDENT AGRICULTURE CONSULTANT
Martina feels privileged to have had the opportunity to meet so many passionate people with different perspectives over her working career and strongly believes that success is linked to integrating approaches, trusting relationships and high moral values.
Now self- employed, she looks forward to continue sharing her experience and involvement across industries. Martina Matzner submitted a thesis on mango production as part of her agricultural engineering degree in Germany before coming to Australia where she became involved and gained extensive experience in the successful development, and later management, of a large mango enterprise outside of Darwin, over a period of 25 years.
Martina played a significant part in driving the progress of the Australian Mango Industry in areas of: Workforce development, ethical employment, best farming practice, water and environmental protection, RD&I and adoption of technologies.
Martina is a recognized collaborator across industry, government agencies and supply chain partners and over the years has contributed as director on boards and advisory committees.
In 2016 Martina was honored to be awarded Agrifutures’, NT Rural Woman of the year.
She also holds a horticultural degree and completed the Company Directors Course (AICD).
