On October 16th, members of RAIA, AILA, PIA and DIA joined us in exploring how place funding models can enable us to leave a lasting green legacy of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics. The Towards Green Pathways, Gold Places: Exploring Green Games Legacy and Place Funding Models breakfast brought together experts in design, planning, and sustainability to discuss how the cities that host the Games can be transformed into high-quality, connected public spaces for all.
Keynote speaker David Martin, a ‘Green Games’ Legacy Strategist, shared insights from the Sydney 2000 Games, highlighting design strategies that could shape our future Olympic cities. The event also featured a panel with Leisl Harris from EDQ and David Wilcox from Urbis, facilitated by Nicole Bennetts from PIA, exploring innovative place-funding models for Brisbane 2032.
Together, AILA, RAIA, DIA, and PIA advocate for:
- A 2032 Design Coordination Unit to drive cohesive, high-quality outcomes
- An urban Olympic Forest in SEQ as part of a 2032 Green Grid
- Precinct-based design and planning to ensure legacy-driven venues
- Place-funding models that view design as a strategic investment
Let’s work together to make Brisbane 2032 a true Green Games!
