From Students to Life Fellows: Queensland Architects Honoured for Outstanding Contributions

The Australian Institute of Architects, Queensland Chapter, proudly recognises outstanding individual achievements within Queensland’s architectural profession. Honouring excellence across all stages of the architectural journey, these accolades highlight exemplary contributions to the profession and the broader community, showcasing the importance of lifelong learning and the upholding of ethics and values that define architecture.

The Australian Institute of Architects, Queensland Chapter President’s Honours Dinner will feature a heartfelt farewell to Russell Hall, acknowledging his leadership as Chapter President, and a warm welcome to Caroline Stalker as the incoming Chapter President. This ceremonial transition reflects the continuity and vitality of leadership within the Institute. The ceremony Celebrates Excellence Across the Profession and honour achievements at every stage of the architectural journey, including:

The Queensland Institute of Architects (QIA) Medallion are Awarded to the most outstanding Master of Architecture graduate from a Queensland university, recognising exceptional academic performance and design excellence. The 2024 QIA Medallion recipients are: Emily Long, Griffith University, Joel Burrows, Queensland University of Technology, Alisha Mandla, University of Queensland, Kieren Dolores, Bond University.

Philip Y. Bisset Planning (Architecture) Scholarship supports graduates in pursuing further studies or research in planning and urban design, fostering the integration of architectural and planning disciplines. The 2024 Bisset Scholarship recipients, Lucinda O’Neill and Maitri Gohel, will be traveling internationally to conduct studies in pressing issues such as sustainability, affordability, and energy efficiency, bringing home critical new knowledge to architects in Queensland.

Dunbar Fellowship provides emerging architects with opportunities for professional development, encouraging innovative practice and leadership within the architectural community. The 2024 Dunbar Fellow, Clare Kennedy, Director of Brisbane Architecture Practice, Five Mile Radius, will use the Fellowship for innovative research into circular design practices that is of critical importance to the architecture profession and beyond.

The elevation of members of the Australian Institute of Architects through Life Fellowship and Fellowship are conferred upon architects who have demonstrated a significant contribution to the profession beyond standard practice, including in areas such as education, literature, or public service. Life Fellows have also rendered notable contributions to the advancement of architecture, exemplifying dedication and excellence over their careers

President’s Prize is bestowed by the Chapter President to individuals or organisations that have provided extraordinary support or made substantial contributions to the architectural profession, highlighting their commitment to its advancement. The names of the President’s Prize recipients will be announced on the 21st of February, at the President’s Honours Dinner event.

These honours not only celebrate individual achievements but also underscore the collective commitment to excellence, ethical practice, and lifelong learning that define the architectural profession. The profession of architecture holds a pivotal role in shaping communities and enriching lives. As Queensland prepares for transformative opportunities like the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, architects will be at the forefront of designing a sustainable and inclusive future. Recognising the achievements and contributions of our members underscores the importance of ethical practice, ongoing education, and community engagement in achieving these goals.
