Monash University is seeking to appoint a highly experienced, innovative and creative multi-disciplinary design team to design a new, inspirational, sustainable and integrated Campus Centre development at the heart of the Clayton campus.
The Campus Centre will be a transformative project delivering a vibrant new student hub on the Clayton campus that both understands and respects its place in the Bunurong Country and enriches and expresses Monash’s identity.
The design will be distinctive, contextually responsive and a demonstration of international best practice, achieving a major positive impact for the Monash community and providing staff, students and visitors with a unique Monash experience. It will be a compelling and engaging place that is integrated with and contributory to its landscape, enticing people to linger and return.
The Campus Centre will be a fit-for-purpose, net zero carbon solution. It will enrich and celebrate excellence in teaching, learning and research that reflects cultural and spatial diversity and inclusion, and emphasises that the student experience is paramount.
As the Clayton campus’ social nucleus and key hub for student and community services, the Campus Centre must embody the University’s Impact 2030 strategic goals to be excellent, international, enterprising and inclusive.
Seeking Expressions of Interest
Monash University is now seeking Expressions of Interest from principal design teams and consortia with extensive experience in the delivery of outstanding architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and retail-place planning and design, among other specialist disciplines to collaborate in developing an innovative, integrated, deliverable and robust feasibility study that will guide the realisation of a new Campus Centre building on Monash University’s Clayton campus.
The purpose of the Feasibility Design Study is to inform the business case for a new Campus Centre on the Clayton campus and enable Monash University to confirm its commitment to this development. Following completion of the Study, including selection of the preferred design vision and endorsement of the business case, the principal design team selected through this initial engagement will remain the architecture consultants for the main project, subject to performance and the University’s approval to proceed to the delivery stage. Accordingly, the selected team will have the breadth and depth of capability for end-to-end project delivery.
Monash University will arrive at shortlisted consortia through an open EOI process. The shortlisted teams will be invited by Monash University to respond to a two-stage Request for Proposal (RFP) in the form of a detailed tender to enable Monash University to select the successful team.
How to apply
To submit an expression of interest, you will need to register on Tenderlink. The tender documents will be issued once registered. A Tenderlink reference number will be available after Monday 16th October 2023.
The closing date for Expressions of Interest is Monday 27 November 2023.
