The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has established a professional campus in Sydney’s CBD to enhance its reputation and accessibility. A retrofit led by DesignInc’s Interiors team sees a commercial space become a flexible educational facility and entertainment space within a 5 Star Green Star-certified building. The CBD campus leverages its centrality to Circular Quay, Wynyard, and Town Hall, helping attract professional students and faculty to the globally ranked university.
The campus features modular, reconfigurable spaces for various learning setups, along with a spacious balcony for a serene break. A commercial kitchen and AV-equipped rooms enhance its versatility for educational and external events. Sustainability is a key focus, with FSC-rated timber partitions and over 80 square meters of indoor planting improving air quality and the overall student experience. The fitout is targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating which aligns to UNSW’s sustainability standards for capital projects.
This project enhances postgraduate education and professional development by providing a high-quality learning experience in a central CBD location. Aligning to our sustainability objectives, we’re targeting a 5-star GreenStar rating, it prioritises natural light, views, greenery, balcony access, and tactile natural materials for user comfort.
The spaces were designed for adaptability, operable walls allow varied teaching configurations, flexible and modular furniture settings allow for easy reconfiguration. This ensures functional spaces accommodates both academic needs, informal interactions and the ability to host external events. It is a quality facility and an asset we will leverage for many years to come.Client perspective
