New South Wales
The St Joseph’s College Aquatic and Fitness Centre, a new comprehensive fitness and recreation precinct within the heart of the College replaces the 1957 War Memorial Pool and co-locates the Healy Gym- a high performance training facility. The new fitness building has an interplay of stacked masses with a distinctive folded roof, defining a new built edge to the centre of the College campus.
Located in largely the same place as the 1957 pool and continuing the presence of the pool within the historic core of the campus, the 50m x 25m high-performance pool is equally a ‘backyard pool’ for the large population of boys boarding at St Josephs.
The Aquatic and Fitness Centre is now a key part of the College, celebrating the history and tradition of sport at St Joseph’s and offering a safe and inclusive student facility.
St Joseph’s College is the largest boys’ boarding school in Australia with over 550 boys calling the College home during term time each year. A great deal of consideration and effort goes into curating a space in which our students feel comfortable, productive and supported – academically, socially and personally. The College’s new Aquatic and Fitness Centre serves as our ‘backyard pool’. The sleek cardio track, dedicated physiotherapy rooms and gymnasium are perfectly located to complement the historical architecture and builds on our history to prepare our boys for a positive future.
