Musgrave Road Studio has revitalised and extended a well-known, historic Red Hill shopfront in a manner sympathetic to its residential neighbours. Originally constructed in the late 1800’s, the juxtaposition of the quirky, crooked, original building fabric with the precision of the new gabled extension celebrates the merging of historic and contemporary.
When read in context with the residential neighbour above, the original shopfront and new gabled extension creates a village atmosphere, weaving landscape into built form. The northeast facing courtyard creates visual pleasure and provides a space for contemplation away from Musgrave Road.
The new extension houses a meeting room, kitchen and amenities, all which are universally accessible and contemporary. The original shopfront retains original fireplaces, door and window openings and linings, with the bay windows providing breakout spaces.
The studio creates a workplace environment which resembles a home and reflects the core value of KO&CoArchitecture – good design improves wellbeing.
Musgrave Road Studio extends beyond a workplace for our team. Both renovated and new spaces encourage and support creativity and collaboration. We can adapt the spaces to suit our varying working styles and modes. The meeting room is a clean, contemporary space that facilitates professional tasks and social uses, including daily lunch gatherings. In contrast, the main office space reminds us that what is old can be celebrated and made beautiful again. The best feature is the landscaped courtyard, an element tying together all components of the design. Garden views are enjoyed year-round; we especially love the sunshine in winter.
