Bridge 17 is a sculptural and functional workplace nestled within a reimagined existing addition atop a significant 9 storey heritage-listed sandstone building in Sydney’s CBD. This necessary upgrade of a dilapidated rooftop addition became an opportunity to create a dramatic workspace enjoying natural light and ventilation.
The addition embraces lightweight steel construction to enable large open-plan interiors. Centralising the dark timber-lined back-of-house programme allowed for naturally bright and ventilated workspaces and meeting rooms alongside the perimeter balconies. The expanse of awninged sliding doors along these balconies frame the iconic Sydney skyline.
The external volumes are expressed and enjoyed internally in double height light-filled spaces. Highlighting the vaulted ceiling is the white set render adding drama to the raked soffits above the timber joinery panelling datum. The warm timber flooring, concealed up-lighting, and custom joinery and furniture complement the reserved palette and considered details of the design.
Our workplace is a functional and sculptural space that is purpose-built for who we are and how we enjoy working. The spatial design has been intricately considered and substantially improved our workflow and team efficiencies. The scale of the new roof volumes and sophisticated soft finishes palette enhance the quality of light that floods the space.
The flexibility of the large open plan volume for the workstations, the intimacy of the defined meeting spaces, and our break-out perimeter balconies allow ample room for our team to work and gather through the day.
