Western Australia
Airport Central Station elevates the passenger experience beyond a commute to an inviting, intuitive, convenient, and safe journey that delivers a seamless connection between the airport terminal and the train, connecting the Perth Hills and the CBD.
Its highly recognisable building form brings to life the Public Transport Authority’s objective to provide Perth Airport with the most appealing transport mode .
The roof’s complex geometry uses aerodynamic references to expand on the idea of travel while preventing glare from impeding control tower operations, accommodating the skylight and opening 260-degree views.
Amplification of transparency and natural light are instrumental in this departure from typical underground, artificially lit station environments. A central void visually connects the station’s 3 levels and pulls natural light from the skylight to the underground platform.
Light, colour, materials, wayfinding ease and seamlessly integrated technical services combine to create a calming, decompression zone, offering patrons respite from aircraft confines.
As the new rail gateway to Western Australia, Airport Central Station needed to deliver a premium transit experience, an innovative and sustainable design approach, and state-of-the-art technology features – the final product did not disappoint.
The station design incorporates aviation and indigenous themes related to travel, and seamlessly integrates with the airport terminal to provide passengers with a convenient and first-class travel experience.
