135 King Street has been repositioned as a refined, contemporary landmark, balancing heritage references with modern design innovation to redefine the commercial entry experience. The transformation enhances pedestrian flow, unlocking the spatial potential of the lobby and creating an integrated third space for tenants and visitors.
A key intervention was removing the low ceiling, revealing the full volume of the space and improving natural light penetration. The repositioned entry optimises circulation, unlocking a dedicated café zone that seamlessly integrates with the sculpted sandstone interior. Soft curves guide movement, while bronze panelling and a dynamic digital screen create a layered, adaptive environment.
With its focus on material craftsmanship, biophilic design, and technology integration, 135 King Street sets a new benchmark for commercial repositioning, demonstrating how heritage and contemporary expression can coexist seamlessly.
135 King Street exemplifies strategic repositioning, unlocking the potential of an aging asset through a modern yet refined and timeless upgrade. The transformed entry lobby and café create a seamless connection between the building, its heritage, and the city. Sculpted sandstone elements reference the site’s historical context while introducing a contemporary elegance that strengthens its urban presence. This repositioning enhances the arrival experience, fostering a welcoming and engaging space for tenants and visitors. The result is an entry that not only respects its past but also adapts for the future, ensuring long-term relevance in Sydney’s evolving CBD.
