The NewActon Precinct by Fender Katsalidis Architects was awarded the Chapter’s highest honour, the Canberra Medallion, in addition to accolades across Heritage, Interior Architecture, Sustainable Architecture, Urban Design and Art, making it the most awarded project of the night. Filmmakers and new ACT Awards sponsors, SRH showcased some spectacular drone footage of the precinct and the surrounding area in the Canberra Medallion video.

The night was hosted by the wonderful Ann Jakle who, as a jury member, was able to bring some personal insights into the awards process. The crowd heard from special guest, Minister Gentleman, who noted that ‘Canberra continues to demonstrate a commitment to design culture….we have architecture (& coffee) in our blood’. Recently appointed National President Jon Clements had the honour of announcing the Canberra Medallion winner.

ACT Chapter President, Andrew Wilson announced the introduction of the newly named Enrico Taglietti Award for Educational Architecture, the Derek Wrigley Award for Sustainable Architecture, and the Gene Willsford Award for Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations and Additions). Enrico, Derek and Gene sat down for a chat with filmmakers SRH, and the crowd was delighted by the resulting video.

A great night was had by all, with a number of guests getting into the ‘winter’s night’ theme, including many fur coats, a Frozen princess, a dancing snowman, and even a wintery knight! Check out all the photographs of night. Thank you to Aarthi Ayyar-Biddle for all of the beautiful photographs taken on the StyleCraft lounges by the warm BurningLog fire.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to all of the entrants and the various juries that participated in this year’s awards program.

And finally, nights like these aren’t possible without the support of our generous partners. Thank you to our sponsors BlueScopeAWSDuluxBCA Certifiers and SRH, for their generous support of the ACT Awards in 2015.
